To verify the safety of machinery, particularly in the field of automatic doors, gates, windows and automatic barriers, and access doors, we use measuring equipment to determine the permissible force exerted upon contact with these devices. In this way, we verify that the equipment complies with the clamping force limits when in contact with operating personnel, in accordance with the ČSN EN 12453 standard.
Measurement methodology in accordance with the ČSN EN 12445 standard
Test equipment
For our measurements, we use professional KMG-T-type measuring equipment, which is capable of measuring, recording and graphically displaying all the values required by the standard
| Measurements | Max. force |
| Dynamic impact force | ≤ 400 N |
| Static force at steady state | ≤ 150 N |
| A dynamic force may act for a maximum of | < 0.75 s |
| The force must drop to 25 N within 5 seconds at the latest – the device must, for example, reverse direction | ≤ 25 N |
Benefits of the solution
Verification of personal safety
- It checks whether the drive stops or reverses the movement quickly enough.
- It verifies that the maximum force does not exceed the limits specified in EN 12453.
- It monitors not only the peak force, but also the duration of the force.
Checking that the drive is set up correctly
- Excessive force poses a risk of injury.
- If the force is too low, this may result in unreliable operation (the door stops when there is wind or increased friction).
- Measurement helps to strike the right balance between safety and functionality.
